Our Dance Story T-Shirt Quilt

Who else did some reorganizing and purging after watching Tidying Up with Marie Kondo on Netflix this year? I’m sure many of us did and after Marie Kondo-ing our house, we finally committed to this idea of making a T-Shirt Quilt that we’ve been wanting to do for SO LONG and never really got around to doing it.

We had a crazy amount of shirts collected over the years from dance shows, costumes, and performances. And well, we have very limited dresser and closet space, so we had to really narrow down the pieces of clothing that “sparked joy” for us.

This process of letting go was tough but I internalize it as also letting go of the memory. Our shirts tell a story. They’re memories we hold dear to our hearts and in some way, make us feel that they were memories that were earned and it was one of those “you hadda be there” kind of feelings, yeknow? We narrowed down our 15 years of dance community memories and selected 64 shirts and we put them all together in a blanket. We are SO HAPPY with the way it turned out and are so excited to share it with you guys!

Our Dance Story T-Shirt Quilt

We started the process by sorting and narrowing down the shirts. This was so much fun and brought back so many memories. We recollected and shared stories. I think it took way longer than expected but we enjoyed every second of it. It was such a rejuvenating time seeing how far we’ve come. :)

We decided to use 64 total shirts in 12 inch squares in an 8x8 formation. This is a HUGE blanket! Large enough for a King Size Bed.

We organized them (or tried to) based on time and folded and arranged them to see what it would look like.

We then sent it off to a family friend to sew and assemble for us. :)

The final product is really incredible. We are so happy with how it turned out. :)

Our next one will be dedicated to our Choreo Cookie Journey. :) Stay tuned for that one.
