First Timers at D23 Expo: What To Do, What Not To Do, and Lessons for Next Time

So we bought into D23 Gold Membership and a one day pass for D23 Expo this year as a little birthday treat. It was our first time going to D23 and just like planning for the parks, this was a HUGE learning curve. In this blog post, we’re going to share some of the things we learned through our mistakes through this process.

Excited for a full day of D23

1. DON’T MISS REGISTRATION

We were set for registration on the original day Disney announced registration. We had both of our computers and phones up and running ready for registration. Right when noon hit, they pushed it back to 1pm. Right when 1pm hit, they pushed it back to Saturday at noon. 🙃 When logging in the next day, we were hit with another 1pm message.. but little did I know, all I had to do was scroll down to enter new my badge numbers.. so I completely missed registration.

What does registration get you? Think of it as expo fast passes. Priority access to shopping, access to registration only lines and experiences, meet ups and signings and basically little to no lines.

2. Do Not Park in the Convention Center Car Park 4

We made the mistake of following the signs to find parking. Why is this a mistake you ask? You will be redirected to walk half a mile around to the convention center so please do yourselves a favor and save your legs by finding any other parking garage to park at. Side note: The parking staff was incredibly rude. Not a great way to start a Disney day.

3. Arrive Early… like really early

We arrived an hour early (8:02am to be exact) to find a MASSIVE line that was actually a line before the big line to get into the expo. By the time we arrived, we were greeted with this line queue and finally started moving at 9:33am. People take their Disney real serious. Arrive early.

4. Brace Yourself For Long Lines

There will be lines ALL. DAY. LONG. Especially long lines for free giveaways and exclusive deals. Longest lines we saw were for shopping. It was crazy! We met a family who waited 2 hours to get into the Mickey of Glendale store. That is just wild. Absolutely wild. So bring your patience.

5. Download the app and plan your day out before arriving.

Set those notifications, they’re really helpful when you’re in the midst of it all.

All in all, it’s been a fun time here at D23. Favorite things we picked up: pins! We get a free stitch BoxLunch Gifts pin and a few pins throughout the con.

Our most favorite takeaway was signing up as a founding member of Disney+ (yay!).

Would we do it again? Probably not. To be honest, we’re not big shoppers and are more picky about buying “exclusive” items.
